Time and structure

The Mirrabooka Squash Club junior program runs during school term on Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm for children aged 8 years and above.  There is a group warm up at 4pm, and then shot practice and fun games that work on things like agility, balance, hand-eye coordination, etc. until 5pm, when we have a 5-minute fruit and water break.  After the kids are refreshed, we have organised game play until 6pm, for them to put into practice what they’ve learnt.

We also have a 4-7s program that runs alongside this from 4.15pm to 5.00pm.  This group’s main focus are the building blocks to being a good squash player, like grip, swing, movement, balance and hand-eye coordination.  As with the older group we have modified game play towards the end.

Our coaches always make themselves available to be on hand to assist new players with scoring and refereeing duties during the game play session.

Fees

First sessions are always free, and then term fees apply which include insurance, fresh fruit each week, court and equipment hire, coaching, free entry to Club Champs and club events, and more.  The fees are $120 per term for the main group, or $60 per term for the 4-7s program.  KidSport funding is available to eligible families which covers a lot of these fees.  More information about KidSport can be found here: https://www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/funding/sport-and-recreation-funding/kidsport/information-for-parents.

Up, up and away!

Juniors looking to take the next step up can get involved in playing tournaments or Junior pennants outside of our regular Thursday program. Various clubs around the state host tournaments each month, whilst WA Squash is increasing their junior pennant competition in 2021 providing more juniors the chance to compete for their club.

Mirrabooka fits into the North Metro zone so our talented juniors have the chance to represent the Northern Nicks team at the WA Zone Team Championships in the July school holidays.
